Frequently Asked Questions
Here's what you need to know about our tree services.
Do you charge for estimates?
An estimate is a free proposal for tree services such as tree removal, pruning, stump grinding,
or storm cleanup. Estimates outline recommended work and pricing for services to be performed.
All tree service estimates are free from our arborists.
An evaluation is a formal written arborist assessment of one or more trees when no tree work
is being scheduled. This is often used for insurance, risk assessment, legal litigation or
documentation and is a charged service. If work is later scheduled, the fee is returned.
Whether you need a professional arborist evaluation or a free tree service estimate in
Charlottesville VA, Metcalf Tree Service provides clear guidance and expert recommendations
How long does it take to schedule an estimate?
Generally it takes 3-5 days to receive an estimate, unless it is an emergency or needs immediate assessment.
How long does it take to schedule a job once accepted?
Generally takes anywhere from a few days to a month unless a faster timeframe is needed or requested from the client.
Do you use spikes to climb live trees?
No, we do not use spikes to climb live trees for pruning purposes, as industry standards prohibit this. This is a big no no in the tree industry, this occurred a lot prior to the 1980’s and unfortunately occurs all too often today. This is a great question to ask, and we suggest that our customers always ensure that whoever they hire does not prune trees using spikes only removals.
When is a good time to prune trees?
Most trees are best to prune before bud break, however it’s generally ok to prune trees anytime of the year if the pruning is done to ISA industry standards; however, tree diseases and blites sometimes dictate the recommended when a tree should be pruned. Make sure the tree company only prunes by the ANSI A300 tree pruning standards.
